Where and how do I begin my home-decorating project?
This is the first dilemma and sometimes the most overwhelming part of decorating a room or home. Knowing where to begin and having a picture in your mind of what you want the room or home to look like is just not reality for many women and men. It can be very confusing, however if you follow some basic rules of thumb and do a little research, you will be surprised at your ability to create a beautiful room/home. The best way to start any project is to find a key/inspiration item. This may be a print fabric, artwork, area rug, bedspread etc. – The idea is to find the key item that has a color palette you are attracted to, and then build the room or home around this key item. Adding the second, third, fourth colors etc., of your key item in other fabrics, accents, artwork, accessories, florals etc. Without this key piece, there is no direction, you could end up all over the place with color choices, and the end result would probably be disappointing. This question and dilemma is what inspired me to create my eBook with complete instructions to guide you with your color scheme. It instructs you how to create your own "color scheme" guide to help you navigate through your decorating project. I will provide an instant visual tool for you to know what colors you like best, as well as giving you approximately coordinating fabrics, wallpapers etc. to cover an average size home. A color guide is the perfect catalyst to get you started in the right direction without making costly mistakes.
I have some really nice furniture and a pretty home, but how do I make it all come together and look the way I want it to?
Well, I have to admit this is one of the most common situations decorators are confronted with. Many of you do fine buying the furniture, but then get cold feet about what to do next. A room or home is not finished until the eight steps to a fully decorated room are completed in each area. The walls/trim/ceiling/moldings must be addressed and are a backdrop for your room. -- The flooring is critical for function and décor and should be chosen with both criteria in mind. -- Window treatments, accent pillows, bedding ensembles for bedrooms should be chosen again for function and color coordination with the key/inspiration piece. -- Lighting will add function and ambience to the room and should not be ignored.-- Artwork will fill wall space, create personality and add an extremely important element to the well decorated room.-- Accessories are absolutely essential to the room. They will add color, scale, drama, personality, ambience etc., and should be items you love and some that add a perfect touch of color to the room decoration. -- Plants, trees and florals, will work wonders to fill spaces. Trees will fill void corners or walls. Ivy’s and florals to match the decor in varied areas are the final touch to a room. Once all of these components have been addressed and added to the décor, the end result will be beautiful. In my eBook, "Secrets to a Beautiful Home" I provide practical information about all of these subjects. Once you have read the book, you will be equipped to make good, money saving decisions.
How do I choose the right paint color for my rooms or home?
Choosing the exact paint color from a paper chip provided by paint vendors is very difficult, even for professionals. Use the chips to narrow your choice, but always buy a sample of the color for testing. You may spend $15.00 to be sure the color choice is what you want before you spend much more, especially if a large area is to be painted. Deciding that you do not like the color after an entire room has been painted for few days can be disappointing and expensive. Lighting factors, flooring colors etc. all play a part in how a paint color looks in the room. Thus, the importance of a test sample can not be over emphasized. On the color scheme guide’s source page that accompanies each color scheme guide (in my eBook "Secrets to a Beautiful Home", I suggest approximately 6 different paint choices that will coordinate with each color scheme). They are to be used as a starting point only! Please follow the above testing suggestions without fail! The provided paint information, gives you the vendor, color number, color name and my interpretation of the color for your reference. Choosing paint colors really is one of the most difficult aspects of decorating, but if you follow the above rules, you will never be disappointed with the results and save yourself from costly mistakes. Good Luck!
